2012 was a spectacular year for California grapes. The Napa Valley in particular enjoyed a mild spring with adequate water, a warm summer devoid of significant heat spikes and continued warm weather throughout harvest. All this made for an earlier than expected accumulation of sugar and fruit ripening. We had all of our mountain fruit in by October 11 which was about two weeks ahead of a typical year.
